I’ve seen and heard some good things about this beer so I thought I’d have to try it out for myself. It’s been a while since I bought Norwegian macro beer, and most likely it won’t happen again anytime soon.
Once the beer has left the can it looks pretty good. It’s a bit darker than most other regular Norwegian pilsners. Sadly, this is the only nice thing I’m going to say about this beer. It’s just as boring and bland as most other yellow fizzy mass-produced beers that dominate all stores in this country.
The nose is pretty much like the regular Ringnes, and there is not much to say about the taste either. I find it a bit more sweet than the regular Ringnes.
The side of the can reads:
Ringnes Platinum er de edleste dråpene bryggmesterne hos Ringnes hittil har klart å brygge. I den mest omfattende smakstesten av Norsk pils som vi noen gang har gjennomført, ble Ringnes Platinum vurdert som det aller beste ølet. Dette er kort sagt et fantastisk godt øl! Ringnes Platinum – Den edleste pilsen vi har.
Translated to English:
Ringnes Platinum are the most precious drops the brew masters at Ringnes have (yet) managed to brew. In the most comprehensive beer tasting of Norwegian Pilseners we have ever held, Ringnes Platinum was rated the best beer. In short, this is a fantastic beer! Ringnes Platinum – Our most precious pilsener.
I won’t bother giving this beer a rating. It’s pretty far from fantastic. Talented brewers at breweries like Ægir, Nøgne Ø and Haandbryggeriet (amongst others) make fantastic beer. Ringnes (and most other macro breweries in Norway) makes cheap and tasteless yellow fizzy beer with one intention, and that is to make as much money as possible without giving a shit about the actual product.
Please, don’t go out and buy crap like this. Spend a bit more money and support the breweries that actually care about the products they make!
