Beer review: 3 Fonteinen Schaerbeekse Kriek

3 Fonteinen Schaerbeekse KriekKriek, a Belgian beer made by fermenting Lambic with sour cherries. It does not look like beer, it does not smell like beer, and it certainly does not taste like beer, but beer it is nonetheless!

Stunning red hazy color with little carbonation. It looks more like a Rosé wine than beer.

The aroma has some funky notes along with sour cherries and apples. Some almonds as well, but not as much as other Krieks I have tasted.

The flavor of this beer is pretty much as expected from the aroma. It has quite the sour push you would expect. There are also some other fruity flavors, like apples and raspberries. There is no bitterness at all and the carbonation level is quite low. The sourness is not overwhelming though. The beer is actually quite refreshing.

The finish is a bit dry and leaves the taste of cherries and almonds in the mouth for quite a while.

One of the better Krieks I have had. I would absolutely recommend this one for others interested in the style. I rarely drink Kriek so I find it a bit hard to rate this beer. It does not compare to other beers so the score can’t be compared to other reviews directly.

Rating: 4.1/5.

Bought at Vinmonopolet, Vika (Oslo).
