Beer review: BrewDog Hardcore IPA

Today is the first ever international IPA day, so what better way to celebrate than with an (I)IPA? Yeah, I know, a regular IPA would probably be even better but I was really thirsty for a Hardcore IPA from BrewDog!

Dark golden hazy orange with a head that leaves a nice lacing on the glass. Absolutely beautiful color on this beer!

Bitter malty nose. Smells really powerful. Lots of hops (which is quite natural considering the amount of hops that went into this beer).

There are floral notes and some citrus. I’m also getting some pine.

Hops, hops and more hops! Did I forget to mention that I got hops in the flavor? There is a small hint of alcohol to be found as well which is more present towards the end.

The beer is not really as bitter as one would imagine after smelling it. Don’t get me wrong though! At a 150 IBU it’s pretty bitter, but not to the point where it is uncomfortable.

There is a really good mouth feel to this beer as well.

Long, medium bitter finish.

Food matches

I would serve this beer with some good fat meat with powerful seasoning. Charbroiled meat would go perfect!

This is one of my favorite Imperial IPAs, so I’m going high: 4.1/5.
