Today has been a windy and rainy day here in Fredrikstad. Beer Here‘s Høst Stout (autumn stout) seemed like a good choice to enjoy while listening to the wind and rain outside.
Høst Stout is the same beer as Ammestout, but was relabeled for the release at the Swedish Systembolaget earlier this year. The reason for the relabeling might have something to do with Beer Here’s provocative label design, with Tia Loca and Malus Pater as good examples.
Nice black color with a thick light brown head that leaves some lacing on the glass.
Coffee, roasted malts, dark chocolate and some raisins. Some smoked hints as well.
The first thing I notice is the really pleasant mouth feel. Silky smooth!
The taste is dominated by coffee and dark chocolate with some fruity hints as well.
Small hints of licorice is also present. Despite all the different flavors this beer is really balanced.
Long finish with some burnt wood up front, and coffee and chocolate that lasts for a while. Really good!
I’m feeling I’m repeating my self with all these suggestions about chocolate desserts, but then again, you can’t really get enough of chocolate desserts, can you?
Today I savored this beer alone, which also works very well.
Yet another superb stout. Score: 4.7/5.
