Den Udødelige Hest (The Immortal Horse) by Svaneke Bryghus is a baltic porter, which means it’s a bottom fermented beer. I had this beer two weeks ago at a small beer tasting at BeerNorway’s HQ, so the notes are from one of my small red books where I write my beer notes. On with the show!
Dark brown/black with a tan head.
Fresh ground coffee, licorice, dark chocolate and some smoke.
As expected from the aromas. The beer feels a bit unbalanced though.
There are some sour flavors as well which does not play well with the rest of the beer.
The finish is somewhat dry and has some bitter notes to it.
This beer might go well with different types of cheeses, BBQ dishes and smoked meat.
Not one of the best baltic porters I have had, but still a pretty decent beer. Score: 3.8/5.
