Beer review: Shipyard Smashed Blueberry (Pugsley’s Signature Series)

With some skepticism I picked up this beer from Systembolaget in Sweden earlier this year. I have only had one other beer from Shipyard, which was OK, so I thought I’d give this one a chance. Let’s see if the money was well spent…

Shipyard Smashed BlueberryLooks

Dark reddish/brown color with tan head.

A sweet malty aroma up front with some blueberry aromas lurking in the back.

At first the aroma is very pleasant and feels quite artificial, but after a while it smells pretty good actually.

There are also some sharp notes most likely coming from the alcohol (9% ABV).

The flavor is pretty much like the aroma. There is a pretty strong hint of blueberries, and the flavor is not as artificial as the aroma.

There is also some caramel sweetness present in the flavor.

Medium long fruity finish with some mild malty sweetness.

Food matches

I’m not really sure what I would serve with this beer. Perhaps a fruit salad? If anyone reading this have any tips, feel free to comment.

The first couple of sips felt a bit strange, but after a while I actually liked it, a lot. Score: 4.2/5.
