Beer review: BrewDog Prototype Scotch Ale

Here is yet another BrewDog prototype beer. This time it’s a Scotch Ale brewed with 8 different types of malt and heather honey. The last beer I tried that was brewed with heather honey was BrewDog Abstrakt AB:07 (which I gave 4.6). Let’s see if this one is as good as the Abstrakt one.

BrewDog Prototype Scotch AleLooks

Dark ruby-red/brown color with thick beige head. The color is absolutely stunning!

This beer is all about malts. I’m getting chocolate, toffee and some toasted bread as well. I’m also getting some clear peaty notes actually.

As the beer gets a bit warmer some nice hints of honey appear as well.

The flavor is pretty much the same as the aroma. There are hints from the honey, some peat and some caramel sweetness. The body is surprisingly thin considering the ABV of 7.5%.

Pretty sharp finish up front with hints of alcohol and honey.

Food matches

This might go well with a beef stew with a creamy chanterelle sauce. The beer is not too powerful so it should go with plenty other dishes as well.

I don’t think this beer is too balanced and it’s a bit too thin. Score: 3.5/5.
