Time for another beer from Xbeeriment. This idea behind this beer originated when Xbeeriment brewed Xbeeriment Barack, and is brewed with 5 different types of malts (pale, cara aroma, crystal, chocolate and peat smoked) and 3 different American hops (Chinook, Centennial and Amarillo). The beer has been dry hopped with Cascade.
The beer has an IBU of 98 and an ABV of 10.4%.
Dark brown color with some light brown/beige colored head which laces nicely on the glass.
The first thing I’m getting is chocolate, and loads of it. I’m also getting a good amount of roasted malts and coffee.
There are also some hoppy notes coming through all the other aromas, mostly grapefruit.
The body is surprisingly hoppy. Everything from the aroma is present, along with a healthy amount of hoppy action.
The beer is pleasantly sweet, with a smooth mouth feel.
Pretty long finish which is sweet and chocolaty up front and quite bitter towards the end.
I usually enjoy beers such as this (imperial stouts) to chocolate based desserts because of the strong hints of chocolate and coffee in the flavor. This beer includes a good amount of bitterness (98 IBUs) so it might need some more “freshness” in the dessert. Perhaps some fresh basil or mint with a dark chocolate fudge cake paired with the beer? I think I might have to try that some time…
I really enjoyed this beer. The flavor is really balanced and enjoyable. The ABV of 10.4% is nowhere to be found. Score: 4.7/5.
This bottle was bought as Vika Vinmonopol in Oslo.
