It’s been a while since I reviewed a beer from BrewDog, so I thought I might as well do one that has been sitting in my fridge for some weeks.
Winter Porter is a spiced version of Alice Porter (wihch I realize I haven’t written a review on yet … need to get on that). This version includes orange zest, chili and some cacao.
The beer has a dark brown color with some light brown head. The head leaves a nice lacing on the glass.
The nose on the beer is pretty typical for a porter. I’m getting mostly roasted malts and coffee.
There are some cacao hints and some spices (pepper) as well.
The flavor is much as expected. Cacao, roasted malts, coffee and some orange zest. I’m also getting a bit more alcohol that I was expecting, and some metallic hints that was not very pleasant.
After a while I can pick up some small hints of the chili and some other spices.
Pretty long finish with hints of coffee and cacao. Also some bitter notes towards the end.
An OK porter, but the metallic hints and the alcohol spoiled it a bit. Score: 3.6/5.
