Beer review: Monks Café Bröderna Andersson’s Brutala Super Saison Oak Edition 2010

I picked up this beer a good while ago at Systembolaget. It was a part of a special release and is not available anymore. The beer is classified as a Belgian Strong Ale and sports an ABV of 16.1%.

Hazy dark orange color with quickly diminishing head.

Aroma

The first thing I’m getting is alcohol, but not in an unpleasant way. There is also a good malty backbone in the aroma. Not much hops coming through.

I’m picking up some small hints of raisins and some caramel sweetness.

Flavor

This beer has a pretty thick mouth feel and is quite warming. I’m getting raisins, caramell sweetness, some spices (black pepper mostly) and some bitterness from the hops.

Finish

Pretty long finish which is quite boozy up front. After a while I’m getting some sweetness from the malts, and all the way towards the end it’s quite spicy.

Rating

I really enjoyed this beer. It reminded me a lot of Red Horizon from Nøgne Ø (need to do a review of that one!). Score: 4.2/5.
