Beer review: Jolly Pumpkin Oro de Calabaza

The third beer from Jolly Pumpkin that I’m reviewing is a Belgian Strong Ale at 8% ABV, aged on Oak barrels.

Jolly Pumpkin Oro de CalabazaLooks

Hazy lemony/light orange color with small head. It almost looks like an IPA.

Sour aroma with hints of wood, green apples and some citrusy notes as well. Quite fruity.

Lightly sour up front with some delicions fruity aromas and spicy notes coming through. I’m also getting some banana notes.

This beer is aged in oak barrels and that comes through nicely in the flavor.

The mouth feel on this beer is pretty smooth with its mellow carbonation.

Slightly boozy finish up front that transforms into a lovely mix of apples, oranges and some hints from the oak after a while.

This is a really good Belgian Strong Ale. Very well balanced and exciting profile. Score: 4.7/5.

We have been told a “tale” that in old times in Norway, drinkers would put a goose on the top of a barrel of beer and cook it when they had emptied the barrel.
Is this just a tall tale of goose feathers?
