Beer review: BrewDog Abstrakt AB:01 (2010)

Another year, another Abstrakt AB:01. About two weeks ago the first of BrewDog‘s Abstrakt beers were bottled. I tried my first bottle of the AB:01 on May 1st 2010, and reviewed one on the blog on May 1st last year. I didn’t want to wait until May this year around so I decided to pop another bottle around its birthday.

BrewDog Abstrakt AB:01Looks

Hazy reddish/brown color with little head. There is very little carbonation left in the bottle (about the same amount as in the bottle I opened last year) but I managed to generate a bit more head this time, but pouring a bit harder.

At first I’m getting alcohol, more so than last year. I’m also getting a good amount of yeast.

As the beer warms up I’m getting some caramel sweetness and some faint hints of vanilla, along with some hints of sour apples.

The flavor also has a good amount of alcohol to it. I’m getting caramel and some spicy hints as well.

As in the aroma I’m getting some hints of slightly sour green apples when the beer warms up a bit.

Medium long finish which is slightly bitter up front with some sting from the alcohol. After some seconds some hints of the green apples return together with some caramel sweetness.

For me this beer was a lot better last year. The hint of alcohol is getting a bit too big which ruins it for me. Rating: 3.2/5.

As you can see from the photograph below this bottle was #75 of 3200 and it was bottled about two years ago. Around this time next year I’ll try yet another bottle.
