Beer review: BrewDog Paradox Jura

Some days ago I picked up an order from Systembolaget in Sweden which contained (amongst others) the latest beer in the Paradox series from BrewDog: Paradox Jura.

This beer has been aged in whisky casks that previously held Whisky from Isle of Jura. I really love dark beers such as this one aged in oak casks, so I’m really looking forward to this review. Let’s get started!

BrewDog Paradox JuraLooks

Pitch black color with lovely light brown colored head. Nice head buildup considering the ABV of 15%.

Roasted malts, small hint of alcohol, dark bitter chocolate, coffee and peat. The aroma has some really strong hints from the Jura casks.

The flavor is pretty sweet and has a good amount of roasted malts, chocolate, wood and some peat … much like the aroma of the beer.

The beer has a somewhat sticky mouthfeel to it.

Long finish with hints of bitter chocolate and peat. The peaty notes survives everything else in the finish. Lovely!

I have had four other beers in the Paradox series and this is pretty close to the top IMHO. Score: 4.4/5.

This beer is available from Systembolaget as long as the stock lasts.

I’m really anxious to see how this beer ages. I bought some extra bottles as usual, so expect another review some time in the future.
