Beer review: Cigar City Guava Grove

Time for a Saison: Guava Grove from Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, Florida. Guava Grove is fermented with a French strain of Saison yeast and undergoes a secondary fermentation on pink guava puree.

Cigar City Guava GroveLooks

Golden, slightly hazy orange color with off-white head.

First I’m getting a really pleasant citrus smell accompanied with some hints of yeast and pepper. After a while I get some sweetness from the malts and a tiny hint of banana. There are also some other tropical fruit hints that might come from the Guava.

Overall a very fruity aroma.

The flavor is also packed with citrus and yeasty notes. The carbonation level is a bit sharp, as it should be in a Saison. There are some sour hints as well. The beer has some bitterness to it as well which might come from the guava. I haven’t tasted guava myself so I’m not really sure.

The beer has an ABV of 8% but I’m not getting any alcohol at all.

Up front it’s all orange zest, and after a few seconds it gets quite dry and a bit tart.

I really love Saisons, and this particular one is really good! Score: 4.5/5.

I picked up this bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika in Oslo.
