Beer review: Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye IPA 2012

Seems I’m on a Sierra Nevada review spree! This time I’m reviewing a beer I picked up from Systembolaget earlier this year, the Ruthless Rye IPA. This is a seasonal beer from Sierra Nevada is and available in spring time. It has been brewed with Bravo as a bittering hop, and dry hopped with (amongst others) Chinook and Citra.

Deep, slightly hazy copper color with a big beige head. The head has pretty bood retention and, as with the other beers from Sierra Nevada, leaves some lovely laces on the glass.

I’m getting some lovely hints of oranges in the aroma. There are also hints of pine and earth. There is also a good amount of malts present.

In the flavor I’m getting orange zest, flowers and malts. There are some bread-like flavors lurking in the back.

The mouth feel is very smooth (as is the case with many beers brewed with rye) in the grain bill.

The carbonation level is pretty smooth which help make this beer really drinkable.

Pretty long and bitter finish with hints of green grass, pine and orange zest.

A very good IPA, but IMO the Torpedo Extra IPA is better. Score: 4.1/5.

This beer is still available in some Systembolaget stores, but be quick about it!
