Beer review: BrewDog Anarchist / Alchemist

It’s pouring down outside, and I felt like a good beer. It’s a tad bit cold as well so I picked up a beer which is a bit stronger than usual! Anarchist / Alchemist is a 14% Triple IPA from BrewDog.

Lovely dark, almost glowing, amber color! The head is frothy and big but disappears quickly. Some lacing stays on the glass.

Sweet malty nose with some ripe tropical fruity hints. I’m also getting some honey-like notes.

As the beer warms up I’m getting some hints of alcohol.

The first thing that hits me is the mouth feel of this beer. It’s almost oily and it has a mellow carbonation level.

The flavor is sweet and boozy, and has some of the same notes found in the aroma of the beer. This beer feels like a light and carbonated version of BrewDog’s Sink the Bismarck.

The finish lasts for a good while and is very sweet up front. The finish makes me think I just enjoyed a sip of a hops and malt liqueur.

I was expecting much more from this beer. It’s too boozy, and not well balanced. Score: 3.4/5.
