And again I’m reviewing a home brew from the Nils Hansen guys. This time it’s an India Pale Ale with an ABV of 7.5%. This batch was brewed on the 30th of August 2012 so it’s fairly fresh. Hopefully it’s as good as the other beers I have had from Nils Hansen, so let’s get started.
The beer has a brownish orange color with a big frothy off-white head. The head seems to last forever and leaves some really sticky laces on the glass.
I’m getting a huge amount of grapefruit and pine in the aroma, together with some light flowery hints. There are some light malty hints in the back as well.
As in the aroma the hops dominate the flavor profile of this beer. The beer is quite bitter and has hints of orange zest, pine, grapefruit and some earthy malty notes.
The mouth feel is smooth and the carbonation is a bit sharp.
Up front I’m getting an intense fruity flavor which fades away to a bitter feeling with a hint of grapefruit.
These guys just keep delivering. This IPA is bold and intense, and I love it! No compromise at all! I would definitely pick up this one over many other commercially brewed IPA’s.
This bottle was batch #13.
